Why your small business website should be boring
Boring websites load fast, stay online and never ask you to update anything at 2am. Here is why the boring choice is usually the right one.
“Boring” is not the word most web designers want attached to their work. We’re happy to own it, because when it comes to a small business website, boring is exactly what you want.
Here is what we mean.
Boring means it loads fast
Most websites are slow because they are doing far too much. A system to log into, a dozen add-ons, tracking scripts and a heavy template all load before a visitor sees a single word. On a phone, on patchy signal, that is the difference between a customer waiting and a customer leaving.
A boring website is just the pages you need, built as simple, ready-made pages. There is no software running in the background, so the page arrives almost instantly. Boring means it stays online
The most common reason a small business site goes down is an update. An add-on updates, something clashes, and the site breaks, often without anyone noticing for days.
